The King of ’80s Comedy
His star has faded a bit in recent years, but during a remarkable run of films in the 1980s Chevy Chase was practically untouchable. The comedian earned his stripes as a member of the Saturday Night Live comedy ensemble. But no mere sketch show would be enough to hold him for long. By the start of the decade, he was appearing alongside Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield in the undisputed classic “Caddyshack.”
That was just the beginning of what would turn out to be a sublime stretch of era-defining comedic turns. Other standout Chevy Chase movies included “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” “Fletch,” and “Three Amigos!” Chase would go on to reprise his Clark Griswold role twice more before the decade’s end. These movies and many others are available on DVD, allowing new generations to discover and appreciate the funnyman’s work.
