Makin’ Whoopi Part of Your DVD Collection
Whoopi Goldberg has been such a mainstay in the American movie scene that it’s hard to believe she’s only been appearing on the big screen since the mid ’80s. She has since gone on to dabble in standup comedy, starring vehicles and even dramatic roles. In fact, her very first performance was a memorable and multifaceted portrayal of Celie in “The Color Purple.”
More recently, Goldberg turned her attention to the comedic realm, starring in a pair of “Sister Act” movies. She leant her strikingly unique vocal talents to “The Rugrats Movie” and other Whoopi Goldberg movies, and even spent a short-lived run on daytime TV as a panelist on “The View.” She became the first black woman to host the Academy Awards and returned in that capacity three more times.
