Movie Concessions

Men tend to enjoy several specific attributes in a movie: violent action sequences, raunchy humor and maybe a bit of full-frontal nudity for variety. But somewhere deep down, even the most rugged man’s man enjoys some special time at home on the couch with a lady friend. And women love their rom-coms. For men, it becomes a question of making a concession and watching a romantic comedy or living in the doghouse.
Some have called the romantic comedy genre tired and formulaic, but it’s actually quite easy to separate the clever, groundbreaking rom-coms from the stale fare that enters and leaves cineplexes with little fanfare. Classics like “When Harry Met Sally” and “Sleepless in Seattle” are still held up as banner examples of what the genre can be. And more recent triumphs such as “Knocked Up” have found ways to combine serious themes with a traditional romantic comedy bent.
